(ECNS) -- A train suspended in the air "flying" through the city is not a sci-fi movie, but a real scene captured by netizens during the trial run of the Optics Valley (Guanggu) sky train. This scene has garnered over 1.3 million likes and 900,000 shares on Douyin, Chinese version of Tiktok, with netizens joking that "Woke up with a jolt, and now I'm in the future. Let me go back to sleep for a bit." Since the end of February this year, the Optics Valley sky train has undergone test runs in the Guanggu Ecological Corridor in Wuhan, central China's Hubei Province. The sky train is a suspended monorail train where the track is supported in the air by steel or concrete pillars above the train. The trams adopt unmanned driving technology, enabling passenger transportation without human intervention on the line. Equipped with a fiber optic system, the train can monitor the temperature of the track and cables, track vibration, and other operational environmental factors in real-time, and issue warnings for any abnormalities to ensure smooth operation. The sky train will allow facial recognition, QR code scanning, and other diversified integration for fare gates. The first phase of the air tram project has a total length of approximately 10.5 kilometers, with 6 stations, starting from Jiufeng Mountain and ending at Longquan Mountain. It connects tourist attractions such as Jiufeng National Forest Park and Longquan Mountain Mingchu King's Tomb Archaeological Site Park at both ends. |
